For the first three months I had Duchess, my female corgi, she chased Powder, the family cat. Powder spent all his time jumping from chair to chair to avoid the dog. But recently, Powder is the top animal and after a vicious fight that left Duchess with a scratch on her head, she keeps her distance from the cat. The dog and cat are only a few pounds difference in weight. And the cat is taller.
Now Duchess makes a show of chasing the cat occasionally, but there is no question that the cat is king, he teases the dog and lays in wait to antagonize.
If need be I will trim the cat's claws. Otherwise they are adjusting.
