If your cat and Duchess don't enjoy a harmonious relationship, I would seriously look at any means of neutralising the dangers your cat poses to Duchess. Having the sharp points of the cat's nails trimmed off seems reasonable considering that a Corgi's delicate eye can be permanently damaged from the claws of a cat.
Cats can be more clever, devious and dominant than dogs. I'd watch the situation very carefully if I were you.
