I have to agree with Emilie on the cost checking and loop holes. When Riley got sick this summer I thought pet insurance would have been a Godsend. However, when I started looking at the cost and what it would cover - maximums, etc., I must admit a good savings plan is just as good. Riley's surgery and chemo cost several thousand dollars, and in reading the pamphlets for various insurance companies it was clear much of it wouldn't have been covered.
I have always understood that there can be huge financial risks with owning animals and have made decisions on medical care based on costs.
