Again, thanks all. My husband and I got him a pen last night (superyard if anyone has heard of that one) and he's trying it for his first time today. I really hope he enjoys it. And yeah I just put the puppy pad just in one of the corners, so depending on what he does it with it, perhaps I'll get that frame you mentioned (is that something you can get at any pet store?). I really think this will improve things for him and us.
