My rule of thumb would be to go with a male, not necessarily because or that they are mello - tell that to my 12 year old boy <LOL>, but because the male/female pairings usually tend to have less problems. Even though your girl does not appear to you to be alpha, more likely than not, she will be the alpha over a male. A TRUE alpha is not a fighter or scrapper - they just rule. They do it with looks, or glances, sometimes a curled lip at most. They don't start fights, but will settle them.
Having said that, much is going to depend on your current corgi and how she gets along with other females. The other part of the equation, if you decide to go with another female, is what the rescue is like and how they do with with other females. A conscientious rescue will do their best to match the right rescue, male or female, to your home.
