1. I was wondering if anyone knows were I can find a breeder in Minnesota.

2. I know a little bit about the Corgi, but I was wondering about the personality?

3. How much should I look into spending on just the puppy its self?

4. What kind of precoutions should I take with this breed?

If anyone knows answers to these questions feel free to answer. I know it is weird having some random person asking. I am really interested. I have been reading books and I know it is only October, but I want to be as prepared as possible.
Here is a link that you can go to and put in your state and find breeders in Minnesota - you can also check out the site for lots of other good information. You can also check out surrounding states if you are willing to travel.

That is great that you are preparing so early. First and foremost, you want to find a good breeder that cares about the temperaments and health of her pups and one who does testing on the parents before she or he breeds them and one that has several years of Corgi breeding experience.
Make sure to ask these questions when inquiring and ask what tests she/he performs on the parents. Good breeders will sell your pup to you on a neuter/spay contract.

Also ask the breeder about what guarantee they offer on their pups in case a health condition should arise - a good breeder will also ask you a bunch of questions to see why you want a Corgi and about your lifestyle so when the litter is born, she can match up the pup(based on its personality) that would best fit your lifestyle.

If this is something you want to do, they will most likely place you on a waiting list for when their next litter comes around - I am not sure if they will require a down payment or not. The price can vary greatly depending on who your breeder is or where you live, but it is not uncommon to pay $600 to $900 for a Corgi(The show prospects would be more) Every breeder in different states has different prices.

They are lovely dogs with a lively spirit, but can also be very stubborn(they are herding dogs) which I am sure you already know - so they are meant to be in charge of much larger animals then they are, and they like to do that with us humans at times. They love to be around their families, so plan on keeping the dog inside; but enjoy many outdoor activities with their families as well. They are very smart and are quick learners. Some are more cuddlers than others. You need to be the leader over a Corgi - enroll in puppy class(at an early age) with him or her and understand that when you get your pup, there will be some nipping and herding that they will tend to do with you and your family members that you will have to work through and correct.

Do you have small children in your home?

We also have the Archives on this site, way at the bottom of this page and if you click on that, you can go to many topics we have discussed about Corgis and what people have dealt with. I think it would be helpful to you.

If you are interested in a Rescue Corgi, you can go to www.petfinder.com and click on Breeds and check out the Corgis available for adoption also; or click on Rescue on the link I provided and get in contact with the appropriate person in your area.

I think you will find them to be a wonderful dog - many people on here have more than one corgi. Good luck in your search.
