Here is a story that appeared in our paper tonight; but it took place in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin. It didn't involve a police dog, but it was a Golden Retriever/German Shepherd mix who was 13 years old and was her specially trained dog.

A disabled woman(who had lost her leg three years ago) was watching TV while sitting on her sofa, when her cat walked across the sofa , jumped on a table and knocked over a lit candle which started the artificial plants on fire.

Her dog, named Jesse, came to her aid. He brought her the phone to call 911 and also brought her artificial leg. The dog helped to get her outside. However, once outside, the dog heard the cat meowing upstairs and went back in to rescue the cat; despite her calling the dog back. Neither the dog or cat made it out

When rescuers arrived, the house was fully engulfed in flames.
The woman received third degree burns to an arm, but will be fine.

Talk about a story of heroism.
