Hey behinderhereyes!
I actually didn’t go through a Minnesota breeder so, unfortunately, I don’t have any local connections. Though I can explain the process I went through in case its helpful.
I started my search online and saved the names of breeders that 1) offered a health guarantee—a bare minimum requirement—and 2) were solely in the business of breeding corgis (i.e., they didn’t breed Corgis and other dog breeds). I felt those criteria increased my chances of finding a breeder who was genuinely vested in the well-being of their Corgis and the puppies they sold.
I finally narrowed my choices to two breeders. One breeder was in Ohio and seemed to emphasize the health, agility and show quality of their Corgis (
www.buckeyecorgi.com). The other breeder (
www.carrollcountrycorgis.com) was in Oklahoma focused on how she worked to breed well-socialized and healthy Corgis. I chose Carroll Country because I thought her dogs better matched my needs. From there, I sent the breeder an email and watched out for any “bad signs” in the process (e.g., if she offered to sell a puppy too young, or if she didn’t welcome questions). It went smoothly. The price of her puppies was reasonable too ($375 to $425 + ~$200 for shipping).
Penny ended up developing some intestinal parasites common to puppies and when I contacted the breeder about it, she was very helpful in answering my questions.
Hope this helps.
