That's not how registration with AKC works.

Linda seemes to be against a certain breeder registering their puppies on 'full' registration with the AKA.
And with good reason - remember the photos of the parents of the puppy Dewey was going to get? 'Nuff said.

AKC registration works this way.
1) The breeder must be in good standing with AKC.
2) Both parents have to registered with AKC. There also some requirements such as age as one example, in order for a litter to be eligible for registration with AKC.
3) Breeder must submit a litter registration form to AKC and pay the litter registration fee.
4) Individual registration slips are then returned to the breeder.
5) At time of sale, transfer of ownership and the accompanying registration slip is then given to the buyer. The breeder marks the type of registration he/she wishes for the puppy to have, full or limited. Limited registration means that should that dog be bred, the resulting puppies would not be eligible for AKC registration.
6) Owner finishes filling out registration papers and sends them into AKC with the appropriate fee.

These days, more and more responsible and reputable breeders are individually registering all the puppies in a litter themselves to make sure the type of registration for each puppy is accurate, as well to make sure sometimes, that the names are what they want them to be.
