Bonnie - If show judges decided to measure and weigh each Corgi before they go into the show ring, it probably would place an uneven balance on all the other aspects that Corgis are judged on. For instance, is a 30 lb male Pem who looks proportionate to his size, a bigger fault because he weighs a few pounds more than the standard, a greater fault than a Pem with a dip in his topline, short coat, incorrect gait etc.
I have had two champion Pems in Conformation and another who went well and I didn't know the size or weight of any of them. Of the two champs, Ricky was underweight until he turned three and Troy was on the small scale of male Pems and his shortish coat accenuated his stature.

Jespah - Human obesity (and at the other end of the scale, human starvation) are becoming the worse problems facing mankind - though at least obese people do have some quality of life for a reasonable period of time.
The USA leads the world in obesity but a lot of other developed countries are following down the slippery path. It's to do with the emphasis on poor food and lack of effective exercise and participation in sport - fast food and the tv/computer world that is enveloping us all in developed countries and the generations under 40 are caught in this web.
New Zealanders on an average are now spending slightly more money per week on sugary substances and confection than they are on fruit and vegetables. The fast food industry here - led by McDonalds - spends $70 million a year on advertising whereas the horticultural industry (fruit and veges) spends $7 million.
Obesity not only restricts people in what they can do as they get older but there is the eventual breakdown in health which is a huge cost to a country.
So we do need a website where dogs can monitor their owners weight ratio to height. Mind you I am a good one to speak because my nervous energy alone keeps me slim no matter what I eat. But one can be slim yet unhealthy due to similar factors which make obese people unhealthy.
