I]Debbie seems estatic that Taylor is an inch (actually, less than an inch) over the so called height standard, but in all the years I have been to conformation shows under many local and foreign judges, and many of them specialist Corgi judges, and been around Corgi conformation showing people and breeders, not one judge has ever measured a Corgi nor have I ever heard of such a thing having occurred. Anyway, as I have so often said, Corgis are getting bigger - longer, higher and more weighty so the standard to a certain extent in this regard is, quiite rightly, largely iignored. The Best of Breed Pembroke at the NZ national show was all of 35 lbs (my estimation only) - and the judge was a foreigner and world rated. I would not wish to have a male Pembroke at 10 inches in height - yet again, that height falls within the so called standard[/I
Michael: I am not qualified to answer that question. I was just replying to your comment that I have shown above regarding corgis getting bigger. For the good of the breed, I personally think that breeders should stay within the standards set for the breed when choosing parents. If one purchases a puppy from a breeder they should expect to get a puppy that falls within the standard. For example, look at the AKC rotties. They have been bred to the point where many are disportioned in size - taller, longer legged than they should be which leads to all sorts of problems with their joints. I would hate to see that happen to our corgis.
