The Queen's love affair with corgis began in 1933 when her father bought a corgi puppy from Thelma Gray (Rozavel) as a playmate for his daughters Elizabeth and Margaret. The royal corgis well known behaviors are wonderful press for the LCS (Lesser Corgi Society) and a big reason that at least among the general population in Britain corgis are not that popular. Charles De Gaulle is another head of state who has owned a Pembroke.

Larry Sullivan, a stage and screen actor, is another famous corgi owner. One of his corgis, Quest traveled with him aboard ship and by train between NY and CA regularly. Quest also brought noted writer Dorothy Parker to her knees for conversation in an elevator on one occasion. Children's illustrator and writer Tasha Tudor has been mentioned.

These are some of the historical beginnings of celebrities and corgis.
