Cindy,
Re: the Evangers- I just saw something on that last night on a 2006 petexpo show on home and garden TV....I didn't know that they made dog food until i saw this show, so my only experience with it is a mackeral fish food for cats which looked so ewww to me. Anyway, on the show they showed the guy and he talked about the fact there is nothing in it but meat- like muscle meat that humans would eat, then he proceeded to eat some of the dog food...hmmm-he seemed to enjoy it LOL! i feel like if all that is in it is meat, why spend the $2 a can price and just roast a chicken in the oven and pull off the breast meat to add to the dog's food?
The reason i happened to add the canned food is that i like the moisture content being added to his food and he LOVES the taste. Again, dogs are not cats, but one thing that i researched to death about cat food was that dry food is the worst thing for cats...canned is far superior and keeps cats hydrated - especially good for cats with kidney issues as they are constantly in need of maintaining hydration. I have seen such strides since i changed all the cats to canned- my sister who only comes over once a month told me the other day that since taking my girls off the dry science diet, she said all my cats have transformed completely. Their coats are amazingly full, soft, shiney, their eyes are bright too. They look like different cats, and what is most amazing is that my eldest diabetic kitty's health has improved so much that she is teetering on the edge of remission from her diabetes ( i doubt she will take the full plunge but hey, i will take such huge strides with a grin!)

ON a food related note, I changed dillon about 3 wks ago getting 1/3 natural balance sweetpotato and fish and his usual 2/3 wellness total of a cup of dry food a day, and it has been about a month since he went to the specialist for his allergies, which have gone away completely ( meaning they are only seasonal and the meds worked). I weighed him last night on our very accurate digital scale and he went from 30.7 at the vets ( which she felt was a good TRIM weight for his frame and noted he could easily gain 2 lbs and still be fine for his frame) down to 28.8...so i am concnerned why he eats as much as he does but seems to be burning it up faster. The only reason we weighed him is that my husband keeps insisting that he looks too thin, so i told him to weigh him, and he is down again...I just upped his food a bit and will weigh him weekly to see where he is and adjust accordingly...I just wonder because i think he eats a good amount of high calorie, high quality food and cant see why he should lose weight. He is not a super active corgi ( I have seen those, he is not it)- he is a couch potato, we do walk about 2 -3 miles a day and play ball about 3 times a day for 10-20 minutes each time but aside from that he naps. My husband insists that like humans some are lucky and have faster metabolism than others....I wish that were my problem...i just look at a piece of pumpkin pie and I can feel my fat cells expanding! LOL!
