Miss Gambler finds a puppy!
This is one trip that we will never ever forget! It's great to be back home, especially with my husband, but we are having a truly crazy holiday. On the way in, Miss Gambler was antsy so we decided to pull over at a rest stop, something that I NEVER do, I only stop at scheduled spots and in cities and at places I am familiar with. We were in the desert, and it was incredibly windy, as we were walking with Miss Gambler, she literally pulled us over to an area where there was an old basket and I didn't want her to have anything to do with it, and then when I saw movement under the cloth inside it my first thought was that it was a rattlesnake and I backed off but Miss Gambler would not stop barking. My husband, however, would not leave the area without determining what was in the basket, and he had a gun(he's a big city cop with all the macho attitude that goes with it). When he pulled the blanket/tarp off, he found a puppy, and Miss Gambler immediately quietened and her head was tilting side to side, then she starting hopping all around and looking like she was asking, "Can we keep it, can we keep it, huh, huh?" To sum all of this up, we did not leave the puppy, so far she appears to be healthy, and Miss Gambler, who I have made comments about on this site about never wanting anything to do with another dog, suddenly does not want to be out of sight of her new friend! I'll send some pictures tonight, just had to share this, and we really don't know what we're going to do with the puppy, we have always wanted another one. Also, the vet says that she's a dachshund, and as far as he can tell, she's not even a mix. He says that it's not uncommon for unwanted litters to be dumped. The rest were either taken, or more likely than not, were eaten by coyotes.
