It is interesting what some vets come up with. I haven't yet consulted one concerning your Cardi but just as with humans, a dog can get a bloodshot eye temporarliy and it reverts back to normal after a blood vessel in the eye has 'reattached.'

The other most common reasons for a bloodhsot eye are: foreign body in eye, scratch, irritation.

Then there are the less likely possibiliities: allergies, glaucoma, tumors, high blood pressure and conjunctivitis - but with these the discolouration would remain at least for some time and not simply clear after a few days.
