Re: the forehead edge. There is a little creased flap of skin that folds a bit to keep the ear standing.
Here is the flap on one of my dobes. It's more pronounced in a Doberman, but every breed has it. Do you see how it's folded over, instead of flat? For an ear to be erect, that little flap has to be folded or bent enough to provide support for the leather.
