Micro chipping became compulsory in NZ last year but exempt are farm working dogs and dogs officially used in the services such as those for guiding the blind, assisting the deaf and physically disabled, for police work, for drug and food detecting. I don't wish to have Taylor micro chipped nor compelled to pay a fee to a vet or other qualified people - even though it can cost as little a $25. The money is not the point. If micro chipping is so helpful to animal control authorities in NZ, why haven't they reduced annual dog registration fees for those owners who have their dogs micro chipped?
So Taylor has become a farm worker. He can be called for duties at any time. He is the farm's emergency backup.
