I fish and herd sheep and ride my horse and work for an employer that does animal research (I don't - I do all human stuff). So, I hope I'm not on an AR site because I'd be banned! Yikes.
There is a difference between Animal Welfare and Animal Rights. What you're thinking is welfare, taking care of animals, helping them.

The animal rights people don't want us to own animals or use them in any way, No pets, no service dogs, no guide dogs, no police dogs, no tracking dogs, no meat, no eggs, no milk, no leather, no zoos, etc.

In the ideal Animal Rights world we would turn our pets loose now. They think we've "enslaved them". (Yeah, and who's serving who around here????)

So, yes, Guardian is an animal rights term. They want us to be guardians and not owners. That way if they (meaning an AR person) disagrees with the way you are caring for your animal, guardianship can be giving to someone else. And your chioces will be gone. So, please think about what you are saying and who you want to support. And be your animals owner.

And yes, I'd like to see the term changed in the profile question. We all need to let the owner know we prefer to be owners and retain our rights to own and make choices for our animals!
