Hardwood floor care -

My brother is a wood refinisher/painter now in Antigo WI. He came out to put the finish on our new oak floor we installed upstairs living room.
The key is the finish. Yes pine is an exception being so soft. But out here most have oak if they get the real thing. Don't get me going on the laminate, clicky. click, plastic sounding floor my dog skidded on so much at my mom's.
If you are able to stay off the oak floor for a week and have several coats of urethane put on, each coat taking an additional day to dry, the floor will be incredible. I went with the gloss because it looks formal (at least one room looks nice now) and the finish withstood vomit and pee from my dog. Soda drinks are the only thing worse than pee on a finish. Dog nail scratches are no worse than the scratches you get from a rock caught in your heavily treaded shoe (rural area), or worse, chairs that are slid on the wood floor. We put runners for our heavy traffic area. Plan to refinish when it gets dull. Or we plan to do a light wet sanding and put a coat of finish every other year.
Now a 140 pound mastiff did gouge clear through the finish to my brother's floor. So he had to sand a lot before refinishing for his move. But a light weight corgi should only gouge the finish if you have a good finish.
I'm thrilled to read a corgi can adjust to the slick surface because chase is too fun a game to miss.
We called FRAP the corgi run. We could yell out Hey! and she would do another run. Glad it was only 2 months before her death that she stopped.
