Thank you all so much for the advice. I have found that my husband is not the only culprit, my daughter has also been sneaking her food when she is here but she is only here on weekends. Here is what we are trying:
I am going out and playing ball for 15-20 minutes in the morning before sitting down at my computer to work (while the coffee is brewing). Then Sassy has her doggie door to enable her to go outside all through the day and my husband (whom I blamed unfairly) is going out with her a couple times during my working hours and playing ball. Our problem is if she gets to running after the ball (which she absolutely loves to do) she will limp on one of her front legs. I have massaged it, looking for anything out of place, but it seems fine. I think what she has done while either playing ball or chasing my squirrels all day she has jammed it or stubbed it somehow. If not better by Monday I am going to take her to the vet just to be sure all is okay. Anyway back to my plan, sorry get to rambling.
Plan: Morning feed she gets 1/4 cup of kibble with 1 tablespoon of can chicken breast or fresh boiled chicken (no skin or fat). If she goes out and plays then at noon I am giving her celery for a snack. For dinner she gets 1/4-1/2 (depending on her level of activity for the day) dry kibble with 1 tablespoon of chicken, cut up carrots and celery.
I am going to go and get some broccoli and other stuff today. We tried green beans again, I had tried fresh and she did not like them so I tried can in her food the other night, she ate her dry kibble and pushed those beans into a nice little pile and left them as a treat for me. I had tried pumpkin before and she would not touch it. She loves bananas but I know they are fattening.
Does anyone know how long before I should see results on the scale so I know if I need to bring it down even more. I am going to take her to the vet on Monday about her leg limping and get her checked out to insure she is in good health and find out the dosage of glucosamine chondroitin to give her as I used to give that to my husband's bassett hound when she was with us.
Thanks again for all the help and encouragement.
