As a cardi owner I agree, it was very insensitive. The tail is not the only thing that makes the dog a cardigan. The temperments are different and if you learn the breeds there are many other differences. I can usually tell a cardi from a pem just from looking at the face. Even in pictures.

And as for Cardis going extinct, the concern was only for Wales. Numbers are down in the registery. However it didn't say what the numbers were for last year or previous years so how far down is hard to say.

It's a small country, they are not in danger in the British Isles overall.
