Fluffies are still AKC registerable. It's just a fault for the show ring and they should not be bred.

There are a couple types of fluffy coats. One is more like the sheltie coat, long and thick, lots of undercoat. The other is more like a long haired dachshund, feathering but not so much undercoat.

That's not linked to the fluff gene, just something that happened, or didn't in this case, ears didn't stand.
