For once and for all - AAFCO are a international independent organisation based in the USA with testing facilities and experts in the field of canine nutrition in the USA and in a few other countries, designed in part to SET MINIMUM STANDARDS, and MAXIMUM STANDARDS (where applicable) of food requirements for dogs. Their minimum standards are no form of trickery. There should definitely be standards and they are charged with setting it through the latest available research, and in policing the standards. They are the dog owners great friends - not in any way The Enemy. AAFCO is one of the major players in dogs been better served, much more healthy and longer lived with a longer quality of life. They are the ones who force or seek to force manufactirers of dog food to raise their own standards, expose the frauds and not fool the unsuspecting public to the extent that has gone before and is stiil continuing on today with dog food being such a gigantic and growing market and players coming into it from all angles.
Linda - Royal Canin and some other dog food manufacturers do produce food specifically for junior dogs ie those aged between one year and eighteen months to two years. I would just use some common sense on this. If junior formulated food is not available for one type of breed or a breed size, go down or up to another. I don't think junior food is as important as the differences between puppy, adult and senior.
