They are actually called demolitian derbies and you are right the cars are trying to hit into each other - the target is the radiator usually to put the car out of commission. The last car moving is the winner - it is too bad you didn't know what was going on because they are great fun especially up north. My guys love them and have participated in a few. Me - I don't care much for all the smoke and the noise. I like old fashioned dirt track racing and I am hoping to go to Bulls Gap this year and watch.
