Thanks for all of your help to calm my initial panic. We ended up taking him to the vet because he starting having diarrhea, and it appears that most of his vocalization was due to discomfort from intestinal gas that may have been a result of changing his food (even though we were doing it fairly slowly). He has kept the energy increase, though, and he's starting 'talking' now!
