I use tag protectors to prevent the "jingling" of the tags when Gromit scratches or shakes. They are just little rubber rings that fit around the tag. Gromit's glow in the dark too. They were only about a buck a piece. I figure - as sensitive as their little doggie ears are, if the jingling annoys me, imagine how much it bothers the poor doggies!
My guy has never had a problem getting stuck to the berber carpet, but one time when he was rolling around in a pile of dirty clothes (one of his favorite past-times - yucky!), a pair of underwear got caught on his collar. It was so funny watching him run through the house with them hanging off his neck!
