We just got back from a road trip where we drove 900 miles to visit my mom in St. Louis and let her meet Owen as she is unable to travel. My mom had supported my daughter's campaign to get a dog (most of my family is dog crazy
), but she was surprised when we told her we were getting a Corgi. She never said outright, but I could tell she was not crazy about the breed. Our family growing up were diehard Golden folks.
Well, our visit changed all that. Owen was the perfect dog guest! He was deferential to my mom's very large Golden Retreiver (except when he was trying to steal Casey's food, but, hey, corgis will be corgis), was very affectionate to all, made everyone laugh, didn't mess up the house and only stole a few dirty socks. But he was so darned cute about it that no one minded. The dogs got on so well--I had promised my mom before we got Owen that I would take her dog if she was ever unable to care for him herself (she has had two strokes) and was so relieved that the two dogs enjoyed each other's company.
While walking in the nearby park (Tilles), we met a pair of cardigans and a pair of pembrokes! Anyone here?
