Get the leathers, man - goes well with them sun glasses and cap-like hat.
If you go by a cat or dog or a running animal etc.he may be tempted to jump out. All the dogs I have seen in a trailer are just leased in by the collar. The child trailers have seat belts that are easy to fasten a leash too. When fastened this way the dog can move around enough. It's easy to make a child trailer comfortable for a dog that size. He'll be able to move all around. I use the harness because at one time the vet thought his hip problems might have been a disk and his back and neck muscles were very tight. I think it's more comfortable and safer in the basket Bailey is in. I also use a seat belt on Bailey's seat belt harness in the car. When he is belted in I can open all the windows and he can get to the window, but not out. There are always many kinds of bicycle child trailers on Ebay.

The only thing I have to be very carefull about now, is that Bailey does not get overheated. I am extremely carefull about this and have water to drink and water to put on him for cooling. I am proactive, I don't wait for him to get hot I keep ahead of it. This year i am going to bring a spray bottle or water for a fine mist of water on him.I know where all the shaded places are. I have been just putting water in my hand and spreading it on him.
I read that animals will lick the face of the young ones to put moisture on the face for cooling in the heat.
One nice thing about a trailer or a trike is you can bring lots of stuff compared to walking. When you are moving it is also much cooler than walking. More than you would think.
