Kidney Disease is the third most common cause of death in dogs after heart and cancer.

Causes: inherited defects, infections, toxic substances.

Being careful not to allow your Corgi from his/her ealiest days any toxic food, toxic plant items or chemicals such as some household chemicals which can greatly affect a dog's kidneys. Lead poisoning is also potentially damaging to a dog's kidneys. There are dangerous levels of lead in the paint of some kids toys fron China. Don't let a Corgi play with and chew at, a lead painted toy.

Urinary tract infections should be treated by a vet ASAP. Certain medications to alleviate pain and a number of anti-biotics are known to cause kidney damage when used for prolonged periods.

Maintaining healthy kidneys in senior dogs is important - providing Corgis aged seven years and over with senior rated diets eg AAFCO-approved food for senior dogs.
