Why dogs roll in stinky stuff

I read that dogs roll in yucky smelly stuff to cover their own scent from prey. This goes back to their wolf origins when the pack hunted for food. Rolling in "dead" items and other smelly things would allow them to sneak up on their prey without their own natural odor being detected by their "chosen dinner". Smelling like a wolf (instead of dead fish, etc.) would scare off their prey.

You'd think that today with our domesticated dogs getting a nice "pre-killed" dinner in a fresh clean bowl, they'd have gotten over the primal urge to cover their own scent!
