Peanut love to play fetch! He’ll fetch his toy ball, his stuff animals, chew toys, and anything that he can get his paws on! I’ll sit on the floor and Peanut will bring me something to throw. As soon as I throw the toy to the other side of the house, I hear Peanut bark as he’s running towards it. He’ll get the toy and trot it back to my area. 9/10 times I’ll try to go for the toy and play fetch again, but I think Peanut wants to play tug-o-war. Once I reach for the toy, Peanut grabs the other end and he tugs. He’ll play growl as we are going this. He'll keep his mouth clamped on the toy for a few mins until i can distract him and grab the toy.

Here are my questions:
-I tried the command “open” (as in open mouth so I can get the toy back), but that command doesn’t seem to work. I hear of people using “out” or
drop it” Any suggestions?
-If it better to let Peanut win at tug-o-war? Or me?

Side note: Peanut only barks and growls when we play these games. So I’m pretty sure he’s play barking and growling. Or maybe not?
If you are concerned about maintaining alpha status in your dog's eye, you better not be losing at tug of war. When you lose, the dog can interpret it that you are therefore weaker than him and that over time can erode your status in his eyes.
