A rescue vs a puppy from a responsible breeder is on the surface a no brainer as you described. But looking deeper into motivations, some people can derive such satisfaction out of rescuing a dog that it makes up for the baggage that the dog might have. Unfortunately I, myself, am probably too selfish to be that kind of person as I selected a puppy from a reputable breeder vs. a rescue.
