Here are a few ways to help 'cushion' the affects of arthritis:

Slip-free flooring such as carpets and rugs over slippery surfaces.

Regular massages increase flexibility, circulation, calmbess and wellness.

Weight control to reduce the workload on bones and joints.

Dietry therapy eg Hills Prescription Diet which is supplemented with Omega3, fatty acids, glucosamine, chondroitin sulfate and L-carritine to help maintain weight, reduce pain and improve mobility.

A soft bed for resting, sleeping such as waterbeds, hammock beds and beds with plenty of extra cushioning.
As you probably remember, Bailey is 2 years old now and has two bad rear hips. He is on Rhymadyl (spelling?) and a joint supplement, he shows no symptoms unless he runs too much with another dog. Then he lies down in between runs. So I normally don't let him do that. Or only a little.
I have a small car, a Toyota Corolla. It is not too far to the ground from the rear seat cushion. He can jump up and down reasonably easily. I always park so he can land on the grass, not pavement. I have a ramp for him that I started using when the vet thought his rear leg problems might be disc related. I have gotten away from using the ramp. Would you say that continuing to use it is a high priority? He does push off with his rear legs pretty hard when he jumps up into the car.
