Knowing how long the behavior has been around is a good starting point. IF it is something recent and not a long term behavior pattern, then a thorough vet check up and out is in order to rule out any underlying medical issues that might be contributing to it. I also agree with Chris that a behaviorist consultation, at the very least, would be a very good idea.

In the mean time, crate her before you leave the house. You can use this method to desensitize her as well. Crate her and go out and pick up the mail. When you return, then let her out and praise her for being a good girl. Lengthen time you are gone and then do the praise routine when you let her out on your return. This will let her get the message you are coming back and she doesn't control your comings and goings.
