Stephen,

I am on topic. I am expressing the point of view of a Breeder. Time, a lot of thought and planning and often goes into selecting just the right dog to breed one of my girl's to. Then there is the nurturing and special care that goes into the dam for 63 days before the litter is even born. Then there is the whelping which might include a c-section. There is a lot of sleepless nights spent in that first week sitting beside the whelping box to make sure all the puppies are okay.
There's the socialization, lots of cleaning, shots, more socialization, more cleaning all going into making Waeryn just the right puppy for Whitney. So call me dense, but I don't quite understand why given all the breeder put into Waeryn to make sure she was healthy, sound and well adjusted, why the slight to the breeder by not using his/her kennel name. It is just a thank you.
Kennel name's Lady Waeryn, it's that simple.

Canada has the same registration system Michael speaks of in NZ. More and more Breeders in the US are beginning the same practice, even though not required by AKC. They are registering the entire litter themselves and doing the registered names. Another method Breeders here are doing is filling out the registration slips with the new owners when the puppies are picked up and sending the registration slips in themselves. These methods cover several things; 1) they know their kennel name is being used; 2) they know the puppies will be registered 3) they know the puppies will be registered with the correct registration - open or limited.

And Michael is spot on about the call/pet names - they don't have to have anything do with the registered name.
