Hi Cadiguy
It's not just in the USA that the Pems dominate the Corgi world, but in every country that I know of. In New Zealand and Australia for instance where Pems are not sold in pet shops, there are comparatively very few Cardis. The Queen of Britain/ England factor is not as great as you think. Her influence may have been in alerting some of the public all those years ago, that Corgis exist per se and are an option, but it's the general public that have opted for Pems instead of Cardis over the last 40 years or so. If the Queen of England was so influential, why is it that Corgis fit nowhere in the picture when it comes to the worlds most popular breed of dog - the Labrador. In Wales, of course, the home of the Corgi, Pems also constitute the majority Corgi.
Mind you, if you presented the next President of the USA with a Cardigan Corgi or two and she/he was seen often to display love and affection towards them, then it might just be a catalyst for more Corgi demand in the USA and more activity on the Cardi front. President Johnston (spelling?) had a Beagle when he was Pres - did that popularise Beagles in the USA to any great extent?
