The angiogram just shows where a blockage is. An angioplasty clears them. They can use either the balloon method (insert catheter w/balloon that's inflated to push the placque out of the way) or insert a stent. The stent holds the artery open and pushes the plaque back too. He has one stent in now from his heart attack 5 years ago. (A mild one thank heavens!)
He was a awake for the proceedure before, and watching, they do numb the area in the groin where they insert the catheter. He didn't mention any pain.
