There are only two dog insurance schemes in New Zealand and one of them is better than the other if you make very careful comparison of them, but either scheme is very good and easily endorsable. Within each insurance scheme are several options.

I believe that VPI in the USA has a good reputation and comes with recommendations from many vets.
