Lets just say Michael,
any place that would charge only $10 a day here is not a place where most
people would want to board their dogs.(at least around here). And they offer pick up and delivery where you live?? My vet used to charge $15, but they built a new facility within city limits and was not allowed to have outdoor runs due to ordinances, so they no longer offer boarding.
I took Cody this morning to the Doggy Day care for an evaluation and for a 2 hour stay. I was a bit nervous leaving him knowing that he would be intermingled with other dogs I did not know. She assured me that she would make sure they would be at his activity level. I went shopping to a nearby plaza to pass the time and she called me on my cell phone within 20 minutes of my departure to let me know that he was fine and doing well.
She said he was in with a Cocker, a border collie and a Westie and that Cody
seemed to get along best with the Westie that was there. She said that Cody
seemed to "like being chased", rather than being the "chaser", and that when
the other dogs "caught up to him", he kind of had this look on his face like
"now what", She said he was well behaved - no aggression or being naughty.
Which every mom wants to hear; and he didn't try to "herd" anyone.
She did mention that though they try to intermingle them by size, they will
usually intermingle based on level of activity. She said sometimes more gentle
labs are with the smaller dogs. She said they monitor them so that if they seem extra tired, they will put them in a seperate area for some rest, but do
have scheduled rest times from 11 to 2 and from 5 to 7 in the evening; which
during this time they can eat and nap in seperate quarters.
They offer "boarding only" for senior aged dogs who may not do well in
doggy day care situations with lots of play, so if I ever want to board Cody
overnight, it would be the full day care package with sleeping over. It didn't sound like they allow intermingling for pit bulls, chows or Akitas which I was
glad to hear(she said they refer them to other places.
Anyway, When I went to get him, his tongue was hanging out and he was tired which was good, so I may try him for a 1/2 day next week and do that
every other week or so, just to get him used to that and being with other dogs and then an overnight should be okay for him.
She did mention that while outside, there was 1 person for every 15 dogs
which I would have thought maybe 2 people would have been good. What
do you think about that ratio. Collars are always off.
