Pointer to long life
The pointer to long life for humans and dogs is simply genetics, nutrition (excellent quality complete and balanced diet) and least amount of stress. ie being kept happy and fit.
the smaller breeds of dogs (eg Corgis) could live til aged 30 with all of the above plus adequate and revelant exercise and all the known help from medical science.
Humans born 12 years ago could expect to live til they are aged 125 under a similar regime.
This Friday, Taylor, my Pem is going to stay for half a day with a New Zealand lady named Hazel who three weeks ago celebrated her 102nd birthday. Hazel drove a car up til six months ago and looks after herself in a small apartment attached to a retirement village. She told me that she is practically (but not quite) a vegetarian and she drinks quite a lot of water. She has had little to do with alcohol and has never smoked. But she has had a very full life - living in countries diverse as England and Russia and has had two husbands and children. And she is slim and contented though she did tell me last week that she thinks she is getting old.
