I read a lot about numerous dogs choking or dying of intestinal blockages from swallowing big chunks too. Plus the ingredients are not what I want to put into Charlie's system:

Greenies ingredients: Processed wheat gluten, glycerin, natural flavor, powdered cellulose fiber, monosodium phosphate, monoglycerides of edible fatty acids, magnesium stearate and chlorophyll

I was disgusted by the ingredients in almost all packaged dog treats though.

Charlie's favorite treat is little pieces of unseasoned, boiled chicken. I take the skin off, boil a whole package, cool it, bone it, dice it into tiny pieces, then freeze 1-2 tablespoons packets in saran wrap. Cheap. Easy. Low fat/calorie. ...and I know what's in it. Next time, I think I'm going to try drying pure chicken or beef jerky bits for him...less messy.

As for the teeth cleaning...Charlie loves to have his teeth brushed!
