First I am NOT a Ms. I have never used that title and never will.
I didn't fall out of any plane. Remember I have worked for a vet, and here in the US if you bring in an animal, even one that's healthy and ask your vet to put that animal to sleep, he has to do it. YOU are paying and the animal is the property of the owner and it is their choice.
Shelters, Humane Societies, whatever you want to call them will also put down healthy animals. And yes, it happens with more frequency than you will care to imagine.

Well, again this is another place where your NZ laws don't apply. In the US it is different. And a vet is legally bound to do as the OWNER of the animal desires. And if he doesn't he can lose his liscense.
Sorry to say so but that is the way it is. Maybe it's you who should get your head out of the sand and look beyond NZ once in awhile.
