The AKC itself doesn't have "high standards" for dogs. The AKC will register any dog that's purebred if both parents are AKC registered. They don't care who the breeder is or if they are breeding to any standard.

AKC registration papers are not an indication of quality. The AKC itself will tell you this and it's in various places on their site.

As Debbie says the food is as good as many others out there, certinally as good as SD, Iams, Purina, etc. It's just not a food with ingredients I'd want to feed my dog.
