Deb,
Give Rupert a hug and kiss from me. I too, stayed with my Betsy when she had to be put to sleep in December and although it was one of the hardest things I had to do, I got to hold her and comfort her in the end.I was the one she was attached to most and it gave me a sense of peace and comfort knowing I was there for her.
When my cat Sam was put to sleep last year, his companion cat of 12 years would look for him throughout the house, it was sad to watch. He would sniff in spots that Sam had layed when he was ill, turning in circles and then he
would dart into different rooms as if to say "I can smell you, but where are you"
I had read somewhere on a web site where it said it can help if the other dog
sees that the other dog has passed - maybe it has helped Rupert somewhat.
I am sure it must be hard for you to be a work today.
