Oh this is too fun a topic!
My babies are way too young to participate in anything as social dining etiquete. Of course... I know my dogs! They are still puppies.
My dogs are at the table at meal time. My husband and I live alone and we will often share scraps with them while we dine. It means nothing to us. However, I have noticed that when my brother comes for dinner, he is not so excited that Spoilt and Rotten are at our feet during dinner. Of course, he is not a dog person either.
At this time in thier little puppy lives, taking them out to dine would not be very acceptable I think because they are easily distracted. They have yet to learn the COME command and like to bark at the cars, joggers, birds, frogs and anything else passing by. It would be disruptive to other diners right now.
We do have Sonic's here though and they have outside dining tables anyways. We also do not make a habit of eating out much and usually bring it back home to eat anyway so it wouldn't really be something I would raise cain about.
I agree with the dog hair comment though. Lots of people are also highly allergic to dog hair so that would not be very good. However, if they can have smoking and nonsmoking areas, I don't see why they can not have dog and nondog areas as well.
You will have a ton of flack on your hands though in highly populated areas that do not offer the tax paying smoker his own area yet they will allow a dog area for dining. (FYI...I quit smoking 9 yrs ago...but still believe smokers should have some rights as well!)
In any case....I thought this a fun topic, one that you wouldn't normally think of anyway. Now I want to go home and feed my babies!!!
