Welcome Nancy and George. It sounds as if you have been blessed with "da fluff" in George - he is what is called a fluffy. This is a coat fault and should not be shown or bred, but make charming and very handsome companions. You are in good company with the fluffies as there are some delightful ones on the forum.
Weight - how much are you feeding him? and how much does he weigh? Scale back on the amount of food you are feeding him and more exercise are the short answers to your last question.
