Massachusetts Corgi help - 03-17-2007, 12:00 PM

My friend's sister-in-law breeds corgis. She recently had a call from a person who bought a puppy from her in Upstate NY. The dog is now nearly 2 years old and the owner says the dog bites. Is there someone who is knowledgeable with corgis in Massachusetts who can evaluate this dog for her? I might be interested in fostering or adopting the dog if it is a problem with the owner. I also need help in case this is a true aggression issue so that this owner doesn't just dump the dog.

Has she had the dog 2 years?
Is she wanting to return the dog?
Or asking for help?

If this were a dog I bred I wouldn't care where the problem started I'd want the dog back in my home ASAP. I would want to be the one to evaluate the dog. Are they willing to give up the dog?

However there is the Mayflower club in that area. Mayflower Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club Homepage Maybe someone there could help her.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Peggy

Bayou Corgi:

I live in upstate NY near the Mass border. I have met Kathy who coordinates Corgi Rescue for Eastern NY State.

Here is the web site: Corgi Rescue of Eastern New York

Kathy and her husband started doing rescue a few years ago and have placed a number of dogs. I spoke w/ Kathy last fall about a dog she was placing (not for me!). I'm sure she would be glad to help.

I don't feel I know enough about dogs to help you directly but I have offered to help Kathy when needed.

Tell her Tucker's Mom referred you!

Yes, she has had the dog for 2 years. The buyer said she had corgis before and was experienced. She has been corresponding with the breeder intermittently but recently said the dog bit her and caused her to have stitches.

Peggy, I AGREE! If it were mine, I'd want it back. The "breeder" has been breeding for at least 25 years. She is married to my good friend's brother. We don't agree with this and it isn't the first time we haven't agreed. But we can't change her. We can only try to help the dog.

I will contact the rescue in that area. THANKS!!!!
