adoption
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

my name is janet and for the last ten years i have adopted corgis from the mayflower corgi group. my first corgi morgan lived with a woman who never left her home. morgan came to me litter box trained and had never been walked or allowed outside. after many months of trial and error, she became a great family pet. however, she developed lymphoma when she was seven and passed away. upon learning of her death, the mayflower group quickly found me jenna, my seven year old female. jenna's family had come upon hard financial times and was relocating. her foster mom trained her in agility and jenna introduced me to the world of agility trails. we asked and received three years ago a foster brother for jenna and scoobie entered our lives. he was a great brother and terrific companion for jenna and i. however, three months ago he developed lymphoma and has recently passed away. we realize he has left a large hole in our family and we are looking for a corgi in need of a home. we have contacted several corgi rescue groups and hope that by posting this letter someone will know of a corgi in need of a home.

If you go on petfinder.com they will have posts of rescues and shelter dogs available. You put in your location and corgi and they'll pull up anything that looks the least bit like a corgi (including corgi rescues). Some of the mixes they think are corgis are real far fetched but in most cases there are photos and profiles on the dogs. You've got a good heart. I too have a rescued corgi, as well as a corgi puppy from a breeder.

Shelly - you are so right. Some of the so called Corgi crosses are just guesswork. And deep down, I agree with leading animal behaviourists in NZ, when they say that a mixed breed is neither one breed or the other/others. So if one thinks that they are getting a Corgi in taking in a Corgi mixed bred dog - they are really not and any attributes are not usually relevant.

Janet,

Yes, go on www.petfinder.com as Shelly suggested and put in Corgi for the
Breed and you will get to where you want to go. There are several purebreds
on there that sound like they have nice personalities.

I am so sorry to hear of scoobie's passing. So many of us on here have
lost our beloved Corgis, including me recently, and I know what a void that
leaves in our lives. Good luck on finding another one.

Linda

Hi Janet - I don't know how far you'd be interested in travelling - I drove 9 hours to the border of Kentucky and Indianna from Toronto to get Rupe - never regretted it.
There's a group in St. Louis called Faery Tails Corgi Rescue - they seem to do a lot for Corgis and always have dogs on Petfinder - check out this cutie:

corgi on Craig's List - 11-25-2006, 11:05 PM

I saw a 3 year old male corgi, posted just today on craigslist.org in the Seattle area.
Good luck with that.

Michael:

I beg to differ with you on a corgi mix as long as there is corgi in the mix. Digger was a mix and I didn't have a clue what a corgi was when the vet said that was in the mix but Chip has so many of Digger's traits that it is phenomenal. The latest one is - When Digger would get really excited, he would do a circle in front of me. Yesterday, Chip did the same thing (three times) and the list goes on.
