Post Promote GoCorgi! - 10-15-2005, 01:56 PM

A quick message:

This is a great site so please help it to grow even bigger by referring fellow corgi owners and anyone interested in Corgis, to it.

Thank you.

I noticed that when I added the pics of our corgi that a Banner for GoCorgi.com was there.. If it is allright to use that as a link to here, I would be more than happy to promote. As long as this forum stays clear of breeding and selling and is a positive place for corgi discussion... I will promote all over the place LOL

Sure, that would be a great idea as a link.

And we promise to keep this place a positive place for corgi discussion. That is our main goal. The breeding and classifieds sections were initially created for the reputable corgi breeders out there. It would have been strictly moderated and only select few would have been able to hold discussions there. But since the feedback for the sections were so negative, we just decided to remove them all together. I think if we allowed access only for reputable breeders to chat with other reputable breeders, it could work.

Admin-
Thanks for removing the sections.
Classified advertising is not necessary for or welcomed by reputable breeders. Most are club members and puppies are sold by referral. Homes are screened and carefully selected. Classified ads are frowned upon. There was quite a fuss when the AKC added a classified section to their web page. The AKC decided to follow through with the classifieds regardless of the outcry against it, but did add the parent clubs as the first and best source for finding a breeder. Since reputable breeders do not advertise in classifies, that left only the back yard types on AKC’s site. A few good breeders decided to put ads there, not to sell puppies because most of these breeders already have waiting lists, but to educate and show the difference in what they do verses others do/don’t do as far as testing, titles, quality of breeding animals etc. These ads are not free and the reputable breeders were/are shelling out their own money in an effort to educate the general public. That is why I feel strongly that reputable breeder have enough on their plates in this regard and don’t need to monitor yet another site where puppies are being sold indiscriminately.

Again, I say thank you for listening and making the right decision. I really do appreciate it.

I don’t know how you would determine these select few and what the guidelines for topics would be. If there was an interest in this avenue for selling, breeding or stud service discussions, I guarantee it would have been the unethical types who would be going for it simply for the free ads and free advice. Reputable breeders generally do not discuss these types of things in public forums unless it is in the interest of education.

Could you explain strictly monitored to me as it applies to this board?
I’m not trying to be a smarta$$ with the question. For instance Corgi-L is what I call strictly moderated. All posts must be read and approved by a moderator one by one before going to the list. Showpem-L is moderated differently. Posts go directly on the list and moderators can remove the post after the fact or block a person from posting further if they break the rules. You can’t un-ring a bell though. Once that post, say advertising pups for sale or stud service, has been posted and read by a few or many, depending on when it is caught by the mods, the bell has been rung so to speak. The latter I would consider to be not strictly, but moderately moderated, if that makes sense.
How specifically will moderating be done in this forum and by whom?
As opposed to the above boards, this one allows for anonymity. I myself have chosen to remain anonymous because I can and because the admin(s) are anonymous. I feel that if anonymity is not allowed, it lends more credibility to the site and the posts. From what I have seen so far, I would consider this one to be lightly moderated. A step above corgis.com, which is un-moderated, with a different layout. One that people seem to prefer.

CORGI,
You really cannot compare a message board to a list. They are very different forms of holding discussions. A post on a message board stays on the site as opposted to a list where everyone who is subscribed receives that post. Therefore, for a message board, moderating every post before it is posted would be inefficient as well as detrimental to the discussion at hand. The negatives would outweigh the positives.

However, from the examples you have listed, our approach would be closest to Showpem-L's moderating style. If a member posted something inappropriate, it can be easily removed with a click of a button. Furthermore, that member can warned, temporarily banned, or permanently banned. We also have the software to track down users who try to hide their identities by using proxies.

Currently, this site is still fairly new so we have not had any posts needing moderating, but we are in search of a few knowledgable, friendly people to help moderate.

Keep in mind, no one on the internet can really be completely anonymous. IP adresses can tell you who and where a user is.

I get on this website several times a day looking for fresh postings. There is nothing new most of the time but I still come back hoping. I feel like I don't want to hog the site myself but I am interested in everyone elses messages.
I am still having trouble starting new threads and putting them in the catagory they are supposed to be in. Sorry, Jane

I love Corgis and really hope this board can prosper. The other Corgi site, corgi.com, has some really knowlegeable posters and gets much more viewing and hence more responses to posts. Unfortunately this site, while better organized, currently lacks a base of posters and it becomes a "catch 22" in that this site without varied posts/responses and the repartee' that follows causes one not to return on a regular basis. In order to break that cycle you need in some way to get 2 or 3 reputable well known Corgi people to participate and others will then follow. The best way to attract those types is to demonstrate in some manner how this web site will benefit the breed. Just being there with good intentions is not enough unfortunately.

I do have some corgi friends that live in my area, plus corgi friends on GoodPaws.org and I have been telling them about this board. I am very happy to have found this group of corgi owners and shall continue to promote GoCorgi by word of mouth, and by sharing my postings here for readers that care to join us.

Well, I love it! I tried to start something similar with people who participate on the corgi mailing list. The discussions flow much better, and it's easier to follow threads.
I'm also on horse message boards, they all have their own personality. It started with farms having foal cams where they included a message board. The message boards go way beyond foaling season, and many become friends. I also read a open paint horse message board, where it's much more political, and less is moderated. Since many of the women argue, they now call it the "hen house", and it things get too ugly, the message threads get deleted.
Keep up the good work!

I think this is a great and useful site. I do agree that we have some really good posters that are very active but we need more people. If you market this site, people will definitely come. I only found out about this site through dogster.com They have a bigger base there only because they have all the breeds.

I really enjoy this site and want to see it flourish. Owners of the site: Please market this site around. Your members are doing it through WOM - Word of Mouth.

I certainly will continue to promote GoCorgi.com as I have been doing ever since I found it myself. I have told several people who are thinking of getting a Corgi since they met Sassy. It is a great site and very informative. It is always nice to know that you are not the only Corgi owner looking for answers sometimes.

Thanks for a great site.

Question????? Has anyone ever complained that this site is addictive? This is a wonderful form of entertainment, as well as a wonderful educational tool. I just stumbled upon you guys the other night and I regret that it did not happen earlier. It is comforting to know that you will be here for Miss Gambler and I.

Take care, and love your Corgi!

Yes, my housework has suffered since I found this site But there are so many nice people here, I would rather do this than sweep the floor.
