Front page changes and Reputation System - 04-15-2007, 04:10 AM

I have rearranged the front (portal) page for the sake of user friendliness. I attempted to keep things simple to reduce the confusion by new visitors. Let me know what you guys think.

Also, I have disabled the Reputation system. I was hoping that it would create a friendlier environment, but I'm not sure that it did that. So it will be disabled for now.

I liked the "new" messages being on the left side. They're no longer there.

I liked having the recent post list on the side, sorry but I really don't care for the changes.

So maybe I'm not as adaptable as my corgis or harder to train , but I liked the new messages/recent threads list on the left side as well - just more user friendly for me. I do like the new layout style for them though.

Well I also really miss the new messages/recent threads list on the left as well. Just doesn't seem right without the lists. Maybe Stephen will take pity on us and change it back.

They are there, if you scroll down a little. Just in a different form.

One request - I would guess that "most" of the people here are are on broad-band or some form of speedy internet access, but there are still a few poor plonkers who are not, and for us, the site does take a l-o-n-g time to load. So long, in fact, that I sometimes just throw up my hands and give up. Maybe it is possible to strip out some of the bells-and-whistles add-ons to speed the downloads a little? Even a modest increase in speed would help.
Just a thought...

The crowd has spoken!
I moved the Recent Threads block back to the left side.

That was one of my goals in the alteration. I thought if I just linked the news instead, it would speed the loading time up. Let me know how it is for you.

And who says the Admin doesn't listen?

We seem to be having a speed-hump tonight and the loads are quite quick. But I'll monitor it over the next day or so. Thanks Stephen.

(Huh. This thing won't quote my quote for some reason.)

Thanks Stephen much more comfortable. I had to look twice when I first logged on to realize that I wasn't seeing things and you had changed it back. Too early in the morning I guess.

Hey Stephen:

I hate to be a nerd, and maybe you already know this, but there's a javascript error on the homepage that appears to be preventing additional javascript on the page from functioning properly (e.g., perhaps the "members" global nav link...not sure...haven't debugged it further). The error is:

Line: 593
Char: 1
Error: 'NcodelmageResizer' is undefined
Code: 0
URL: http://www.gocorgi.com/

Line 593 appears to be the following:

NcodeImageResizer.MODE = 'enlarge';

Otherwise, thanks for all the work you've put into this site. It's a great resource.
